Luang Prabang Mountain Biking Tour
This remote land was once known as the Kingdom of Lang Xang, or the Land of a Million Elephants, and the old royal capital of Luang Prabang is nestled among mountains at the confluence of the Mekong and Khan Rivers. This delightful town has a unique and special charm and we spend out first day here, visiting the former palace and the most significant temples.
The next two days we use the best mode of transport to see the countryside surrounding Luang Prabang & bicycles. Waving children will greet you as we ride from village to village, absorbing the serenity of Laos. The following day we have a bit more of a challenging ride, but are rewarded by the stunning Kuang Si waterfall. As we usually finish our riding by early afternoon we have plenty of time to discover the temples and French colonial splendor that UNESCO recognized when naming Luang Prabang a World Heritage site.
TRIP PROFILE:-
We ride 115 km mostly on fairly good asphalt or hard packed dirt trails. There is just enough broken road or dirt roads to make a mountain bike with front suspension necessary. Traffic is exceptionally light and we will see few cars. Riding is usually over by early afternoon so there is plenty of time to wander around and discover Luang Prabang and soak up the atmosphere.
