After the Pont d'Arc, a 60 m high natural rock arch, the river Ardèche carves its path through deep gorges enclosed by 300 m cliffs and forms meanders punctuated by rapids. Thirty kms of wilderness following the stream wait to be discovered.
The river is suitable for all levels of canoeing or kayaking ability. Minimum swimming ability is required. From Easter to the end of October descents of 6 kms, 24 kms, or 30 kms are organised in half day, one day, two day or longer trips. Tents, meals and drinks are carried for overnight camps. There are authorised bivouac grounds for camps and barbecues. In the summer the ideal clothing is a swimsuit, shorts and plastic sandals. In the off-season it is advisable to wear a neoprene one-piece suit and shoes or alternatively a tracksuit, trainers and windproof jacket.
