The Pyrenees Orientales is officially the sunniest region in France with over 300 days of sunshine every year. It is also a stunningly beautiful area with a huge diversity of landscapes providing the perfect backdrop for a thrilling adventure weekend. The activities take place amidst towering rocky peaks, alpine meadows, dense forests, mountain lakes and fast flowing rivers. A head for heights is a useful attribute as you’ll be spending a great deal of time at altitude whether it’s paragliding, trekking, canyoning or climbing the via ferrata.

Itinerary & Highlights

Saturday
Arrival and Transfers

We will meet you at Barcelona Airport for the 45 minute transfer to our accommodation in the sleepy hamlet of Esposouille. After showing you to your rooms, your guide Simon will host an introductory home-cooked dinner prepared by his wife Joanne (who is a fab cook!).

Sunday
AM - Gorges de la Caranca

We follow a remarkable path cut into a cliff face with jaw-dropping views of the magnificent Gorges de la Caranca as well as the surrounding countryside. Absolutely spectacular and definitely not an everyday walk.

Sunday
PM - Mountain Biking

We start at an altitude of 2100m and descend for 17km across the border into the lovely Spanish town of Llivia where we reward ourselves with a visit to a local tapas bar. Mercifully, transport is provided back up the mountain in good time for dinner.

Monday
AM - Tandem Paraglide Flight

The French Pyrenees offer one of the most perfect paragliding settings anywhere in the world. It’s not just the great weather and the warm thermals that attract paragliders from around the world but also the stunning mountain views. Not to be missed!

Monday
PM - Canyoning

We head for one of two excellent canyons depending on the weather conditions locally. At Thues there is the fascinating experience of “hot canyoning” descending the warm thermal waters. Alternatively, the Porte Puymorens Canyon has great slides, abseils and an 11m jump.

Tuesday
Via Ferrata & Thermal Baths

Via ferrata is a network of cables, obstacles, ladders and bridges built into the mountainside which allows you to explore areas which are usually the domain of only the most serious mountaineers (head for heights a must).

After our adrenaline filled ascent we head for the local thermal baths to soothe those aching muscles before the return transfer to Barcelona Airport.

Esposouille

The tranquil village of Esposouille is located at an altitude of 1525m in the heart of the mountains and is a fantastic starting point for all activities.
Our chambre d'hôte offers an excellent standard of comfort in a recently renovated stone Catalan farmhouse. All your evening meals are prepared by your hostess Jo. She’s a top cook so enjoy your home cooked meals accommpanied by local wine.
