   Itinerary & Highlights

  Day 1
Arrive at Maun Airport from Johannesburg, the ‘Gateway to the Okavango Delta’, where you will be met by your pilot and escorted to the plane for your flight to Stanley’s Camp.
Approximate flying time 10 minutes. With some of the world’s largest National Parks and vast unspoilt landscapes, Botswana is a wildlife paradise just waiting to be discovered. The Okavango, the world’s largest inland delta, the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, and the National Park cover an area roughly the size of Portugal. The Chobe National Park boasts the world’s highest concentration of elephant, and the Central Kalahari is home to the nomadic San People and the majestic black-maned lions. The Okavango Delta: Jewel of the Kalahari! Set in an amphitheatre of ebony and sausage trees on the southern tip of Chief’s Island, Stanley’s Camp sits amidst 260 000 acres of untamed and untrammelled African Bush.

Bordering the southern section of the famous Moremi Game Reserve, this private concession is located by definition in the seasonal Delta. Game viewing in the area is extremely good with excellent numbers of predators and plains-game on offer. The area houses one of the largest buffalo populations in the Okavango Delta. In the dry season, the population can concentrate into a herd in excess of 2000 head. Exciting activities at Stanley’s Camp include gentle balloon safaris over the Okavango Delta (weather permitting); unique elephant interaction with a semi habituated herd; guided walking safaris, mokoro excursions (water permitting) and exciting night drives. Please note that the Elephant Activity is included in the package price.

On arrival at Stanley’s Camp private airstrip, you will be met by your guide and transferred to the lodge in open 4x4 vehicles. The staff of Stanley’s Camp will welcome you with cheerful, traditional song.

Stanley’s is a small luxury camp consisting of 8 classic styled safari tents raised on wooden decking. The elegantly appointed tents exude classic Africa; hand crafted beds dressed with the finest linen, antique furniture individually selected and oriental carpets that give a delightful glimpse at colonial Africa. Antique paddle fans provide respite from summer heat.
Each accommodation unit offers en-suite facilities and a private balcony featuring a hammock. Electricity is supplied by a combination of silent packed generator and battery system, allowing 24-hour power supply.
After having had the time to freshen-up in the comfort of your rooms, your guide will take you on a discovery of Stanley’s private concession. Game drives at Stanley’s Camp are conducted in open vehicles that offer unencumbered views. The accompanying professional guides are amongst the best in Botswana.

Return to camp in early evening in time for a hearty dinner.

DAY 2
Early morning wake up call with fresh tea/coffee and biscuits served in your room followed by a morning game drive or an elephant experience. Walk with these wonderful, intelligent creatures and experience this unique view of some of the wildlife and the behaviour of one of the most intelligent mammals. Return to camp after the morning game activity for a hearty brunch.
Afternoon at your leisure to enjoy the facilities on offer. Take the time to relax by the rim flow pool.
Mid-afternoon high tea will be served prior to your next game drive, which may extend into a night drive should you so wish.

Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3
Early morning wake up call with fresh tea/coffee and biscuits served in your room. Perhaps experience a walk or short game drive, following which you will have breakfast. After breakfast you can relax until middle to late afternoon, when you will take part in another activity.

Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Early morning wake up call with fresh tea/coffee and biscuits served in your room. Depending upon your flight times, you will experience a mokoro excursion (water levels dependant), exploring the rivulets and channels of the Delta, following which you will have breakfast. After breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip for your flight to Kasane and Chobe Muchenje Time of departure will be confirmed by the Camp Management. Approximate flying time is 1 hour 30 minutes. You will be met at Kasane Airport and transferred to Muchenje.

Day 4, 5, 6

Muchenje Safari Lodge is on a delightful and peaceful setting overlooking the Chobe River and floodplain. Views from the Lodge extend to between 30-35 kilometres. The lodge is in the Chobe Enclave (Chobe Forest Reserve) just 2 km from the Western unfenced boundary of the Chobe National Park. Access to the Lodge is from Kasane in Northern Botswana. Muchenje is only 45 minutes by air-conditioned Kombi from Kasane Airport along a new tar road through the Chobe National Park to Ngoma. Ngoma is the entrance to the Western Chobe. The ten twin-bedded thatched chalets, all with en-suite facilities, are sited on the escarpment edge all with their own balcony and unique view. Each chalet is exquisitely furnished and great care has been taken to create a true African 'ambience'.

Livingstone (Zambian side of the Victoria Falls) is a simple two-hour drive from Muchenje and Ngoma along fine tarred roads. Muchenje is the only safari lodge at the Western end of the Chobe. No other developments are allowed within the Chobe Enclave at Western Chobe.

Muchenje Safari Lodge thus has virtually exclusive access to the Western Chobe. Muchenje’s game vehicles do the bulk of the work in the Western Chobe. This means that game viewing is both productive and truly exclusive. This contrasts the Eastern Chobe where four large hotels and seven lodges have access to the Eastern side of the park. The Eastern side of the park is extremely busy.
Other animals to be seen around Muchenje and the Western Chobe are leopard (very difficult to sight, but relatively common); hippo (the Chobe River is one of the few places in the world where you can see hippo out of the water during daylight hours), crocodile, giraffe, warthog, eland, kudu (greater kudu), bushbuck (the Chobe bushbuck is a subspecies and very rare), tsessebe (topi), sable antelope, roan antelope, waterbuck (common), red lechwe, puku, reedbuck, impala, duiker and steenbok. Hyenas (spotted and brown), aardwolf, wild dogs, jackals, bat eared fox, civets, genets, mongooses, monkeys, baboons, honey badgers, bush babies, squirrels and many other smaller mammals.

The bird life around Muchenje Safari Lodge and the Chobe River is fantastic. From Pel’s Fishing Owl to Fish Eagles; from Lappet faced vultures to Marabou storks; from ducks and geese to Secretary birds; from Bataleur Eagles to Augur Buzzards; from Carmine Bee Eaters to Lilac Breasted Rollers; there are too many birds to name. There are over 300 different birds in the area, many of these close to the Lodge itself. Many bird watchers come specifically to this area and to Muchenje.

In short, you can expect to see a range and numbers of wildlife with very few rivals on the planet!

Day 7, 8 & 9

Dependant upon time, you may be able to do a short morning game drive, then return to camp for a light breakfast before you are transferred to Stanleys Camp near Livingstone.

Each of the seven luxury cottages is individually designed and decorated with local materials.

The open-sided design affords a unique view across the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park to the mighty Zambezi River and the Victoria Falls - one of the Seven Natural Wonders Of The World.

The main house provides the setting for French style cuisine; alternatively dine under the stars on the lawn or in the privacy of your own cottage, whilst enjoying the personal service of the Zambian staff, all with an in-depth knowledge of Livingstone and its environs.

Spend your days enjoying the Victoria Falls area, or by the pool, spotting elephants at the nearby watering hole. Evenings can be spent sampling wine from the lodges cellars or unwinding by the hearth.

During your stay you may want to enjoy an adventure such as white water rafting, bunji jumping, elephant back riding or a micro light flight over the falls.

Your stay at Stanley Safari Lodge is on a fully inclusive basis in an open sided suite with its own plunge pool, which includes all meals local drinks, house wines (not premium wines, champagne and liqueurs), laundry service and Livingstone Airport transfers

Day 10
After a morning activity you transfer to Livingstone airport for your flight back to Johannesburg.

It is vital that you ensure that have adequate medical evacuation, and travel insurance, and that you consult and take precautions against malaria
